When I started painting forty years ago, I had no idea that those first couple steps would lead to a lifelong passion for creativity. For years, I painted in makeshift beach studios, worked at night in restaurants and lived on the beach in the day. I would paint constantly- back then all in oil and on canvas and sometimes gessoed paper. I painted the place I lived, which were the people and places of Hermosa, Redondo and Manhattan Beach. The sizes were sometimes quite large, canvasses measuring 80” at times and often quite small, 5” x 7” works on paper. I painted Saints for a while, turned my friends into icons that would outlast them. In the end, I don’t do much easel painting right now but I still do occasional commissions and paintings for myself.
